BESTARI ITE or bITE is a school social work programme tailored specifically for ALL students from the Institute of Technical Education (ITE). It encompasses activities that includes interactive group work sessions, workshops, casework & counseling, public education talks, focus group discussions, team building activities, mentoring scheme, creative thinking programmes, entrepreneurial thinking programmes, community service projects and service learning programmes. bITE aims to provide a holistic service to the ITE students and create more opportunity for all students to develop, grow and inculcate values such as lifelong and independent learning, have an entrepreneurial mindset and give back and share with the community. Over the last 5 years (2002 to 2006), Project bITE has reached out and benefited more than 11,000 students while Project GEMS has benefited about 500 students at ITE Yishun, ITE Ang Mo Kio, ITE Tampines and ITE College East. For its successful outreach efforts as well as benefits extended to ITE students (both Muslims and non-Muslims), Project bITE has been commended by RADM Teo Chee Hean, then-Minister for Education and Second Minister for Defence, at the Bestari Awards Ceremony in 2002, as a fine initiative in helping ITE students discover the potential within themselves and seize the various opportunities available to advance themselves academically. Annually, 4PM also gives out the 4PM bESTARI OUTSTANDING STUDENT Award to Malay/Muslim ITE students whom have performed exceptionally well academically and in co-curricular activities. Every year, a total of 45 awards are given out. If you love to be a friend, role model and mentor to your fellow friends and students, we need you as volunteers. You will be trained and briefed on how to provide positive interpersonal relations with your peers. If you are keen to be a mentor or volunteer, contact yati@4pm.org.sg If you are an ITE student and wish to participate in Project bITE, contact us at 6 242 6288 or yati@4pm.org.sg or you can get in touch with your school’s student support officers. |
